Ferihegy - a major airport located 16 km from Budapest. Originally, the airport was built for military purposes, but in 1947 it was decided to reconstruct the airport for civilian purposes. The runway was reconstructed to 3010 meters and the main airport building. In 1960, the number of transported passengers increased from 50,000 to 350,000, and in 1974 the passenger flow reached 1 million. In 1983, a second terminal with an area of 24,000 square meters was built. The passenger flow increased to 1,700,000 people. In 2005, almost 8 million people used the airport services. The airport plans further expansion. According to the management's plans, by 2011 the passenger flow will reach 260 million people.

The airport management pays special attention to security. Over 500 people monitor security at the airport around the clock.
