The airport was opened in 1948 and is one of the four largest airports in Berlin. It serves both domestic and international flights, including flights to the United States, Canada, Asia, and Africa.
In 2020, the Berlin-Tegel Airport was closed after the opening of the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport. However, some charter flights and business aviation flights continue to use the Berlin-Tegel Airport.
