Yakovlev Yak-40 is a Soviet jet passenger aircraft, developed in the 1960s. It was the world's first jet aircraft specifically designed for regional airlines.

The aircraft was created by the Yakovlev Design Bureau and first flew in 1966. It was designed to carry up to 40 passengers for distances up to 1,200 km.

The Yak-40 was equipped with three turbojet engines and had a maximum speed of 750 km/h. It was also the first Soviet aircraft equipped with an automatic flight control system.

The aircraft was operated in the USSR and other Eastern European countries, as well as in some countries in Asia and Africa. It has been replaced by more modern models such as the Sukhoi Superjet 100 and Bombardier CRJ.

Today, the Yak-40 is mainly used for charter flights and cargo transportation. Several aircraft have been converted into business jets.
