Rules for carrying hand luggage and baggage on Swiss Airlines
Hand luggage
No matter which class you are flying in, the rules are the same for all fares. In all cases, the weight of one piece of hand luggage should not exceed 8 kg, and the sum of three dimensions should be 113 cm.
When flying in economy class, passengers are allowed to carry only one bag into the cabin. If you choose business class, you can bring two bags on board.
Checked baggage
In all cases, the sum of three dimensions of the baggage should not exceed 158 cm. The allowed weight of the baggage varies depending on the chosen class of travel and is as follows:
- If you are traveling within Europe and have chosen the Light fare for your journey, baggage is not included in the ticket price - it is paid separately. The Classic&Flex fare allows for one piece of baggage weighing up to 23 kg, and the Business fare allows for two pieces of baggage, each weighing up to 32 kg. If you choose first class, you can check in 3 suitcases with a maximum weight of 32 kg each.
- When flying on a transoceanic flight, passengers in economy class are allowed to check in one piece of baggage weighing up to 23 kg, while business and first class passengers can check in three suitcases. However, in the first case, the total baggage weight should not exceed 64 kg, and in the second case, the maximum weight of checked baggage reaches 96 kg.
- Other flights have an increased allowance: in economy class - 2 pieces weighing 23 kg each, and if you are flying to Brazil, you can check in 2 pieces of baggage, each weighing 32 kg.
Excess baggage
In economy class, for exceeding the dimensions, you will have to pay 100 euros if you are traveling within Europe and 200 euros for intercontinental flights. If there is only excess weight, the fee will be half of the above-mentioned amounts. However, if the baggage exceeds the regulations both in weight and dimensions, you will have to pay 150 euros for travel within Europe and 300 euros for flights to another continent.
When flying in first or business class, you will have to pay 100 euros for exceeding the baggage dimensions on a route within Europe and 200 euros on a route to America, for example.
The prices also differ for additional baggage. For example, if you are flying with the Light fare within Switzerland, you will have to pay 15 euros for one piece of baggage if you pay online, 30 euros at the check-in counter, or 55 euros during boarding. The weight of the baggage should not exceed 23 kg. For other classes, the price will range from 45 to 100 euros depending on the method and place of payment.
If the weight of the baggage exceeds 23 kg, you will have to pay 125 euros. If the bag is not heavy but oversized, the fee will be 175 euros. And if both parameters are exceeded, the fee will be 225 euros.
When flying with European airlines, the cost of baggage for the Light fare will range from 25 to 55 euros, and for other fares - from 45 to 100 euros. An oversized suitcase will cost the passenger 175 euros, and for excess weight, the fee will be 125 euros. If both weight and dimensions exceed the limits, you will have to pay 225 euros.
If you are flying between the USA, Canada, Mexico, Central America, and other countries, the cost of the second piece of baggage for economy class will be 80 euros if paid online and 90 euros at the check-in counter.
Traveling with children

If your baby is less than a week old and you have planned a flight, you will need a doctor's certificate giving permission for the baby to fly. The airline may ask you to reschedule the flight if the baby has an infectious disease at the time of the flight. You do not have to reschedule the flight (it is not your obligation), but in this case, additional fees may apply.
When flying within Europe, Swiss Airlines can provide a bassinet on board. The number of bassinets is limited, and they are provided to children up to 8 months old and weighing 11 kg or less.
