The Amilcar Cabral International Airport (IATA code: SID, ICAO code: GVAC) is located on the island of Sal in the Cape Verde archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. It is the largest airport in the country and serves over 1 million passengers per year.
The airport was opened in 1948 and named after Amilcar Cabral, a national hero of Cape Verde. In 2005, a major reconstruction of the airport was carried out, resulting in the construction of new terminals and the expansion of the runway.
